Anderson started one Twitter chat with a six-step financial philosophy. it posted on Twitter: “1. Get paid. 2. Pay the bills. 3. Pay off your anxiety (liquid savings). 4. Pay off your future (investments). 5. Treat yourself (less than 2-4). 6. Repeat. ” She went on to explain that this works regardless of how much you earn and depends more on how much you spend. Anderson also notes that these rules have been a part of her life since before she got her big break. writing“My current career doesn’t dictate my financial abilities, that’s what I preached when I made less and was less known, I’ve always had a good relationship with my money or lack of it.”
There was plenty to glean from the pearls she dropped, but among the highlights, The Kitchen host explains that if you’re an impulse spender, you should “make your savings hard to come by.” She too processed how she goes about making a purchase. If she can’t afford two, she says, then she probably can’t afford one. We wonder if that applies to Anderson’s pantry produce tips.
When one of her followers confessed they couldn’t get past the second step, Anderson offered: “Downsize. You can live beyond your means. Or get a better-paying job and improve nothing else in life. People often make the mistake of living lavishly when they check not it’s generous.” That sounds about right.
