India is a country with a unique culture of vibrant colors, rich traditions, beautiful landscapes and a variety of languages. Each state has its own regional language, with even more diverse languages in remote and tribal areas. One of them is Hindi, which is written in the Devanagiri script and includes a large number of dialects, such as Braj, Khari Boli, Bundeli, Awadhi, Bagheli. Our country has one maximum number of Hindi speaking regions and stands fourth in the world after English, Spanish and Mandarin.

1. The first Hindi typewriters were made in the 1930s.
2. The word “Hindi” is derived from the Persian word “Hind” which means “land of the river Indus”.
3. Bihar became the first state in India to declare Hindi as an official language in 1881, replacing Urdu.
4. The Hindu made an online debut by publishing the first Hindi magazine in 2000 since then the Hindi language started making its impact on the World Wide Web and became so popular now.
5. Hindi is the mother tongue of about 600 million people worldwide.
6. Poet Amir Khusro was the first writer to compose and publish the first Hindi poem.
7. In 1977, Atal Bihari Vajpayee proudly showed respect for the Indian language and presented a speech in Hindi at the United Nations.
8. Hindi has been considered as the main language under Article 343 of the Parliament on 26 January 1950.
9. Some Hindi words like ‘Achha’ and ‘Surya Namaskar’ are included in the Oxford Dictionary.
10. Hindi is spoken in Nepal, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Fiji, Mauritius, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Tobago.
