The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Central Zone Council and the Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Central Zone joined forces last month to supply Tabaquite High School with much needed cricket equipment.
A quantity of pads, gloves, helmets and sticks, donated by the Central Zone, was delivered to the school on November 24.
The initiative was a continuation of a partnership aimed at youth development in the central region between the two stakeholder organizations and serves to assist the school in relaunching its cricket programme.
Commenting on the initiative, Central Zone chairman Kellman Kowlessar stated: “The goal of the Central Zone is to deepen its partnership with primary and secondary schools and their representative bodies to assist schools in restarting their programs of cricket.
“Cricket development starts at junior level and in schools like Tabaquite Secondary, there is hidden talent waiting to be found. We hope this facility will help re-launch the school’s cricket program and give students the opportunity to showcase their talents and gain recognition.”
Rawle Harry, chairman of SSCL Central Zone thanked the TTCB Central Zone for their continued partnership in helping SSCL fulfill its mandate of developing and supporting high school cricket programs.
He noted that the goal, through the partnership, is to provide further assistance in the development of the playing field and the construction of a playing field that will be used by the school next season.
Working together, the Central Zone bodies have undertaken a more ambitious project, having drawn up proposals for the construction of a facility that will serve as a home for the development of youth cricket in Central Trinidad. The facility, when completed, is intended to benefit youth development initiatives in the Middle School and Central Area.
