A Temecula dance troupe is preparing to perform at Carnival in Rio de Janeiro in February.
The Brazilian dance company will join samba dancers from across the United States in a special parade wing, a news release said.
The company’s Nairobi Burks will perform as a passenger, its owner Courtney Carter will be a muse and lead a cruise that will carry dancers Busisiwe Yendi, Nellie Toner, Espy Taylor and Kaia Luna, the release said.
“Carnival is a symbol of unity and strength for the diverse population of Brazilians,” the statement said. “For BDC, it’s also about expressing the strength and beauty innate within us and the importance of community. All these elements make up the reasons for what makes samba so special to the team.”
The Temecula company’s preparation will include fitness training, dance classes, samba workshops, performances and fundraisers for the trip.
