But you know when Koe made his debut at our show in ’17, he wasn’t a festival headliner yet. However, there was something very special about him and it was easy to see that he was on the verge of a major explosion.
So what’s his secret? Simple, and it was no secret at all, from his music to his tweets, it’s honesty. Unconceived, untroubled, this-is-who-I-am, take-it-or-leave-it, brutal honesty. And, as it turns out, more people took it than left it.
That night, the first one in my studio, I asked him about his massive underground Twitter following. Yes, I asked him for advice on Twitter. Here’s what he said:
No filters, no filters at all,” he shared, laughing a little. “People are either going to laugh at you or like you. Either way, they’ll retweet.
Here we are more than six years later and Koe is still heeding his advice. There are zero filters when it comes to his music, tweets and interactions. There is a refreshing level of integrity that comes with all those words and tattoos.
While we are eagerly waiting for him to release his new album Hell Paso, you can watch my conversation with him from the studio in January. That night we covered many topics including drinking Ultras with Nature Boy, the possibility of a future Post Malone collaboration and even this MD 2020 bottle that has been sitting in my office since 2018 waiting for the Dallas Cowboys to win the Super Bowl .

Nelly’s abandoned former residence
The musician bought this house with the plan to turn it around for a profit, but things didn’t work out that way.
