The Landings Resort & Spa recently treated guests to its own carnival parade called “Colors in Motion.”

Held on Friday, July 22, a few days after the St. Lucia Carnival ended, the event drew about three dozen guests to the property’s lawn, where they mingled with staff and were treated to pulsating soca music, drinks and dancing.

Attendees even got a special performance from former Power Soca Monarch Ezra who had them singing along and dancing to some of his popular hits.

Sannicia Sammy, Assistant General Manager, The Landings Resort & Spa, said Colors in Motion was created by Aunty Cathy and Juan, Kids Club Coordinators. “They came up with the name, the concept and the costumes and brought the event to life,” said Sammy. “This was the first time The Landings has hosted such an event and we’d say it was a huge success. We saw children as young as three, teenagers, parents and co-workers having a great time.”

Sammy noted that some of the hotel’s guests came to Saint Lucia to attend some of the national carnival events, including the fiestas and the Parade of Bands, and expressed that they had a great time. The guest who got lost deserved a sample of the carnival atmosphere, she said. “So our indoor parade was specifically aimed at those guests who wouldn’t have had a chance to do that, but wanted to experience St. Lucian culture,” she said.

Sammy said Landings organizes events for the various St Lucian celebrations and will continue to do so as it is important that we represent and showcase the St Lucian culture.

“We are trying to recognize and celebrate these festivals in Saint Lucia so that all guests can enjoy what Saint Lucia has to offer,” said Sammy. “By doing this, we encourage them to go out into the communities and have an authentic experience of these festivals on a larger scale, i.e. La Rose Flower Festival, Creole Heritage, etc.”

Meanwhile, Cathy Andrews, Children’s Club Supervisor, also known as Aunty Cathy, especially to the children, said she too was excited about the atmosphere the event created. “We love to see kids and families together having fun. That is why we are here, to contribute to creating memories for our guests.”

With all the years of experience both Cathy and Juan have together, they are a force to be reckoned with. They have created a calendar full of fun events and activities for The Landings Kids Club and this is just one of them.

“We came up with the idea to organize this event and ran with it. It was a lot of planning, but we made this event a success. It was great to see the kids and their parents having fun.”
