There are so many platforms used by different projects to market themselves; reach their target audience and increase their community membership. Among these are; Events on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Discord, Telegram, IRL, etc.
All of these platforms have different audiences of course, and depending on what you want to achieve in terms of community size, community engagement and onboarding strategy; it’s important to know the best place to get that demographic mix of the community you have in mind.
My all-time favorite that I’ve settled on by helping projects with their social media accounts is Twitter. Twitter has really helped the evolution and adoption of Web3. It’s where most people go to find out what’s happening in the Web3 ecosystem.
Like Facebook, Telegram also contains a Web3 audience, Twitter is like the melting pot where the mix is made. Literally, everyone who is a key player, spectator, etc. in the Web3 space are on Twitter.
For example; most Web3 projects I’ve come across started with Twitter. Why? Twitter provides the platform to gain traction and create awareness for your project. A project’s Twitter account can even have up to 500k followers and still not branch out to Discord, TG, etc. as the case may be. This is a con with Twitter in my opinion. One can get very comfortable with the success of the platform (ie, if you are finally able to decipher the Twitter algorithm and know when, how and what to post).
So if you want to start a Web3 community with Twitter, or start with TG and Discord, then branch out later, Here are some tips for you to optimize your Twitter presence:
- Use the right name: You don’t want people to be put off when they see your name. Use something that reminds them of what you’re offering.
- Use a pfp that fits your project; If it’s an NFT project, you can combine several sneak peeks together and use them as your header, while one of them serves as a pfp.
- Use a good bio: Essential information about what your project is about should be found here. You may also want to add a hashtag of a keyword that is most searched for in your country, eg #Defi, #NFT, #P2E, etc.
- Connect your other social networks: You may want to give your disagreement or TG, here.
- Post organic content related to your project (new tweets, retweet posts from community members, retweet posts from similar projects in your industry, ie if there has been a collaboration.
- Create pinned tweets for tweets you want to give more visibility to.
- Organize giveaways and collaborate with influencers (instructions should range from following your project, tagging friends, to joining disputes or TG).
- Start a trend and ask your community members to engage en masse. If possible, reward them for it.
- Check for what’s trending and create content around it.
- Use hashtags (#), cashtags ($), memes, gifs and infographics to explain ideas.
- Explore between polls, short posts, topics, etc., and see what works best for your project
In summary, all of the methods are some of the ways I’ve used to optimize Twitter for several projects I’ve worked on. Twitter allows you the freedom to post any content you want. However, note that there is a character limit that causes most posts to become threads. However, I can’t imagine Web3 without Twitter.
