The Rothschild family, the most famous of all European banking dynasties, for about 200 years exerted significant influence on the economy and, indirectly, on the political history of Europe.
Jewish organizations and media regularly report and insist that the Rothschilds today are a “normal” wealthy family and not as fabulously wealthy as portrayed by others, stressing that all other reports are pure and false speculation.
The Jewish side even goes so far as to push narratives to the contrary into the quagmire of anti-Semitism and conspiracies, citing Forbes among others as the ultimate source of truth.

The house was founded by Mayer Amschel Rothschild and his five sons, Amschel Mayer, Salomon Mayer, Nathan Mayer, Karl Mayer and Jakob, or James, Mayer.
Starting in a banking house in Frankfurt, Mayer and his sons became international bankers, establishing branches in London, Paris, Vienna and Naples by the 1820s.
In addition to banking and finance, Rothschild businesses have included mining, energy, real estate and winemaking.
Since the early 19th century, the family has been known for its many charitable activities, particularly in the arts and education.
