Trinbago Knight Riders are chasing their fifth Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title in the 2022 tournament which started on August 31 in St Kitts.
The Knight Riders will once again be led by Kieron Pollard, who led the Knight Riders to victory in the 2020 tournament.
Pollard was retained for the 2022 tournament along with Sunil Narine, Jayden Seales, Akeal Hosein and Tion Webster.
Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran from Jamaica Tallawahs and Guyana Amazon Warriors respectively for the 2022 season.
Knight Riders will play four matches in Trinidad in CPL 2022, with the first match against Barbados Royals on September 13 at Queen’s Park Oval.
Kieron Pollard (captain): The 35-year-old from Tacarigua, Trinidad, is one of the most celebrated T20 players in the world and one of the most devastating batsmen in the world. Pollard has played 604 T20 matches, scoring 11,783 runs with one hundred and 56 fifties. Pollard has played 92 matches in the CPL, scoring 2227 runs and taking 56 wickets. He led the Barbados Tridents to the CPL title in 2014 and the Knight Riders to CPL glory in 2020.
Sunil Narine: Narine, 34, is playing his seventh season with Trinbago Knight Riders. Narine represented the Guyana Amazon Warriors between 2013 and 2015. After missing the 2015 CPL season, Narine joined the Knight Riders in 2016. The Arima-born spinner has won three CPL titles with the Knight Riders (2017, 2018, 2020). In his CPL career, Narine has scored 625 runs in 76 matches and taken 78 wickets at an economy rate of 5.50 per over. In the 2014 edition of the CPL, Narine became the first and only bowler to deliver a maiden in a Super Over, in a T20 match.
Jayden Seals: Seales, 20, joined the Knight Riders in 2020, just months after representing the West Indies in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020. He played his part in helping the Knight Riders to their fourth CPL title in 2020 .A left-arm batsman and right-arm fast bowler, Seales has played 12 matches in the CPL, taking 12 wickets.
Akeal Hossein: All-rounder Hosein, 29, made his CPL debut in 2014 with the Barbados Tridents, winning the title in his first year. The orthodox left-arm spinner joined the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2020, winning the title in his first year. Hosein has played 48 matches, taking 33 wickets and scoring 187 runs.
Tion Webster: A talented right-handed batsman, Webster joined Knight Riders in 2019 after two seasons with Barbados Tridents. The 27-year-old played just four games with the Tridents without securing a regular run in the team. However, with the Knight Riders, Webster has played 19 matches scoring 381 runs at 23.81. He scored 147 runs at 29.40 as Knight Riders won the CPL 2020 title.
Andrew Russell: One of the most dangerous T20 batsmen in the world, Russell joined the Knight Riders in April 2022 after nine seasons with Jamaica Tallawahs. Russell, 34, won two CPL titles with the Tallawahs, reaching the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2013. Russell smashed 1,419 runs with the Tallawahs over 76 matches at an average of 31.06. Both his T20 hundreds came against the Knight Riders. He has also taken 69 wickets with his fast bowling at 24.30 per game.
Nicholas Pooran: West Indies’ current white-ball captain Pooran joined the Knight Riders in April 2022. The 26-year-old spent the first two seasons of the CPL with T&T Red Steel, scoring 209 runs at 17.41 in 18 matches between 2013 and 2014. spent with Barbados Tridents (2016-2018) and Guyana Amazon Warriors (2019-2021), Pooran decided to return to his home franchise. Pooran, who was the youngest player to play in the CPL when he debuted in 2013, is yet to win a CPL title.
Mahesh Theekshana: Sri Lankan representative Theekshana will make his CPL debut. Just 22 years old, the Colombo-born player played exclusive cricket for the first time in 2020 with Jaffna Stallions as they won the Lankan Premier League. In February 2022, Chennai Super Kings bought him for the Indian Premier League 2022. He played nine matches, taking 12 wickets at 21.75. His 4 for 33 against Royal Challengers Bangalore made him the youngest bowler in IPL history to take a four-wicket haul. Theekshana is yet to join Trinbago Knight Riders. The Sri Lankan off-spinner, who was part of the Sri Lankan Asia Cup winning team, is yet to receive a No Objection Certificate from Sri Lanka Cricket.
Colin Munro: Born in Durban, South Africa, Munro has represented his adopted country of New Zealand in U19 cricket before going on to play ODIs and T20Is for the Kiwis. He signed for Trinbago Knight Riders in 2016 and has helped the team win CPL titles in 2017, 2018 and 2020. In 2016, Munro became the first overseas player to score a hundred in the CPL. The 35-year-old was the top run-scorer in the 2018 tournament. Munro has scored 2,020 runs in 65 matches for the Knight Riders since 2016.
Ali Khan: Popular American fast bowler Ali Khan has represented the Knight Riders since 2018, taking 43 wickets in 35 matches. The 31-year-old won CPL titles with Knight Riders in 2018 and 2020. The Pakistan-born pacer made his CPL debut in 2016 with Guyana Amazon Warriors. His ability to bowl fast, swinging yorkers earned him a place in the men’s cricket team and contracts with Kolkata Knight Riders, Islamabad United and Karachi Kings among others. Khan fractured his forearm during a match for the USA against Jersey in Zimbabwe in July 2022. He has not fully recovered and will not play in the 2022 CPL.
Tim Seifert: New Zealand international Seifert joined the Knight Riders for the 2020 season. The 27-year-old won the CPL title with the Knight Riders that year and has been a fixture with the franchise ever since. Seifert, a right-hander in the mold of Kiwi great Brendan McCullum, has scored 360 runs in 26 matches for the Knight Riders. A former New Zealand U19 player, Seifert was bought by Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022. He has also been signed by Dambullah Giants for the upcoming Lankan Premier League.
Sekkugee Prasanna: Sri Lankan all-rounder Prasanna is back with Knight Riders for the first time since his debut season in 2019. An attacking, right-handed bowler, Prasanna averaged 25.50 for Knight Riders in 2019 with one fifty and got his runs at a strike rate of 175.86. The 37-year-old also took two wickets at an economy rate of 7.73 with leg-spin. Prasanna, who is a warrant officer in the Sri Lanka Army, has played for several T20 franchises including Lahore Qalanders, Colombo Stars, Northamptonshire and Khulna Titans. He has also represented Sri Lanka at international level in 20 T20Is as well as a single Test match and 40 ODIs.
Khary Pierre: An orthodox left-armer, Pierre first represented the Knight Riders in 2017 and is now in his sixth season with the franchise. The 30-year-old has taken 34 wickets in 35 matches at an average of 24.10 and an economy rate of 6.80. A left-handed batsman, Pierre hit 10 not out in two balls to win a tight match against Barbados Tridents in 2019. Pierre has won three CPL titles with the Knight Riders (2017, 2018, 2020). He has represented West Indies in ODIs and T20Is and has also played for Trinidad and Tobago at first-class and List A levels. Pierre has 53 wickets in 53 T20 matches and has represented the Northern Warriors and Bangla Tigers franchises.
Philip Anderson: Right-arm fast bowler Anderson Phillip has been with the Knight Riders since 2016, when he was still just 20 years old. The 25-year-old made his debut against Jamaica Tallawahs in August 2016 and has since taken 10 wickets in 17 games for Knight. Knight. Phillip made his West Indies ODI debut in March 2021 and his Test debut against Bangladesh in June 2022. At first-class level, the fast bowler has taken 70 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 21.34.
Leonardo Julien: A sharp left-handed batsman, Julien was drafted by the Knight Riders in 2022. The 20-year-old has made a name for himself in T10 cricket with Team Abu Dhabi and other local franchises. Julien has also represented West Indies B and the West Indies U19 team. Just 21 years old, Julien made his T20 debut in the Knight Riders’ loss to Jamaica Tallawahs on 7 September 2022. Julien announced his arrival in List A cricket with 83 for West Indies Development Players as they won the 2019 Super50 final against the Islands Leeward.
Sharon Lewis: A 24-year-old left-arm medium pacer, Lewis is in his first season with the Knight Riders. He made his debut on 31 August against ST Lucia Kings and claimed his first T20 and CPL wicket, against Tallawahs on 9 September when he dismissed former TKR player Amir Jangoo. In July 2022, Lewis was among 15 players named as part of the initial intake for the CWI Developing Players Academy in Antigua.
Terrence Hinds: Hinds, 30, is an all-rounder in his second season with the Knight Riders. He made his CPL debut for his home franchise in 2018 and did not play another match until the 2022 season. A powerful right-arm batsman, Hinds has one hundred and two fifties in 10 first-class matches. His slinging action has given him 16 first-class wickets, including his maiden five-wicket haul in May 2022. Hinds represented the Knight Riders in the 6ixty tour in August 2022.
Daryn Dupavillion: Dupavillion, 28, was signed by Knight Riders in August 2022 and made his franchise debut against Jamaica Tallawahs on September 9. He took 1 for 23 in the loss to Tallawahs. Born in Durban, Dupavillion has represented South Africa in two ODIs and at U19 level. He has also played for the Dolphins at first-class and List A levels. The right-arm pacer has 69 first-class matches under his belt with 214 wickets at 25.08. Dupavillion has taken 37 wickets in 32 T20 matches, at an average of 19.94 and an economy rate of 6.96.
