Tigers and Panthers Battle to 1-1 Draw – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Men’s football team No. No. 23 Clemson secured a hard-earned point Friday night against No. 25 Pitt, playing the Panthers to a 1-1 tie in a hostile road environment. The Tigers totaled four points in their next ACC road games.

“I was very proud of the boys,” coach Mike Noonan said of the performance. “It was two tough ACC games in less than a week and I’m really proud that we were able to get the point. I thought we could have deserved more. We faded a little bit in the second half, but I was really proud of the way the team played.”

A back-and-forth first half looked destined for a goalless end until an Alvaro Gomez corner found the head of Adam Lundegard. The quarterback sent the ball past the goalie into the right net to put Clemson up 1-0 just before halftime.

The lead didn’t last long, as in the 51st minute, a ball behind the Clemson defensive line one-timed past goalkeeper Joseph Andema to tie the score. He scored his first goal allowed in 501 minutes as a Tigers goaltender.

The teams traded chances for the remainder of the half, with both teams testing the goalkeepers. Andema was up to the task for Clemson, making a diving catch to right late in the inning to keep it tied. Both goalkeepers made four saves en route to the tie.

Next time, The Tigers return home for a non-conference battle with the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Tuesday night. Kick-off is set for 19:00 with the match scheduled to be broadcast on ACCNX.
