GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team opened competition today at the Debbie Southern Invitational hosted by Furman. Cristina Mayorova pushed player no. 2 in the nation in the lead as the Tigers picked up a combined four wins in duals.
77 Mayorova took her match with South Carolina’s Sarah Hamner to the third set after winning the first set 6-3. In the deciding set, the junior jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Hamner fought back to take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Jenna Thompson and Alexandra Anttila went 2-0 in doubles, winning their matches 8-3 and 8-0. Mayorova and Daniella Medvedeva won their first doubles match 8-2 and Sophia Hatton and Eleni Louka won 8-6 over the Wake Forest pairing of Carton/Li.
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow for the second day of the Debbie Southern Furman Invite.
