CARY, NC – Clemson men’s tennis team wraps up day three of ITA Regionals in Cary, NC Tiger doubles pair Ethan Silva/Matt Pitts dropped their match to end their run at ITA Regionals, but Ryuhei Azuma/Spencer Whitaker won to continue their impressive doubles play for another day.
“Spencer and Ryuhei had another very good performance today,” said coach Robbie Weiss. “They are doing the basics very well and playing good, aggressive doubles. Excited to see if they can win both of their matches tomorrow and get an automatic bid to the ITA Fall Nationals. Ethan and Matt had a solid performance against a top team from NC State. They had a few set points in the second set, but couldn’t convert even one. I was pleased with their performance and felt that both Ethan and Matt are trending in the right direction with their doubles play.”
Both teams battled as Azuma/Whitaker won their match against UNCW’s Mallory/Broadstreer, 6-2, 7-6 (10-4) for their third straight win while Silva/M. The Pitts were defeated by NC State’s Staeheli/Catry, 6-3, 7-6 to end their run.
Whitaker and Azuma will return to the court tomorrow in Cary hoping to win two more matches to keep their streak alive.
