EUGENE, Ore. – Kentucky track coach Tim Hall led Volunteer coach Chrisitan Coleman to a sixth-place finish in the World Athletics Championships 100-meter final, while Abby Steiner qualified for the 200-meter semifinals in the first four days of competition.
Coleman finished sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.01 as one of four Americans in the event. Indoors, Coleman won silver in the 60m at the World Athletics Championships in Serbia in March.
#SteinerSpeed made its World Athletics debut with Steiner running 22.26 in the 200m, the third-fastest time in the field heading into Tuesday’s semi-finals. She will compete in the semifinals at 9:50 PM ET.
UKTF rising senior Megan Moss ran in the 4x400m medley relay for the Bahamas on day one of the World Athletics Championships, while All-American and recent graduate Dwight St. Hillaire competed in the 400 meters for Trinidad & Tobago. Both will compete again on July 23 in the 4×400 meter relay for their respective countries.
Andrew Evans, the UK Class of ’14 and 2022 USA champion, competed in the discus qualifying rounds but failed to make the final.
Daniel Roberts, the reigning US 110m hurdles champion, was disqualified after suffering a fall in the 110m hurdles.
Sydney McLaughlin will make her track debut on July 19 for the 400m hurdles, an hour before Steiner competes in the 200m semi-finals.
The remaining competitors include McLaughlin, Celera Barnes (Class of ’21) and 100-meter hurdles: Keni Harrison, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Devynne Charlton.

UKTF-affiliated athletes will compete on each of the 10 days of competition in Eugene, highlighted by recent US champions Sydney McLaughlin, Keni Harrison, Daniel Roberts, Abby Steiner and Andrew Evans.
Harrison, the 2019 world silver medalist and Tokyo 2020 silver medalist in the 100m hurdles, will face fellow UKTF graduate Camacho-Quinn, the Tokyo 2020 gold medalist. Harrison is the world record holder (12.20) while Camacho-Quinn is the Olympic record holder (12.37). Volunteer coach Charlton is also tipped to be a medal contender. She finished sixth in the 100m hurdles final at Tokyo 2020 and won silver at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles.
McLaughlin, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is the top seed in the 400-meter hurdles after breaking her world record for the U.S. title in late June.
Steiner currently has the second fastest 200m time in the world this year (21.77) behind Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson (21.55) and will be fighting for a medal at her first world championships.
USATF Outdoor Championships
In late June, Steiner found success in her first USATF outdoor championships by winning the 200 meters in a personal best time of 21.77, the best of all time in college, the sixth fastest in American history and the 17th fastest in world history.

Roberts, a 2020 Tokyo Olympian, won the 110-meter hurdles title with a season-best 13.03 to officially qualify for Team USA. It was his second US title in the event after winning in 2019.
Evans, a 2016 Rio Olympian and UK Class of 2014 graduate, was seeded first in the discus and will compete for Team USA at the World Athletics Championships.
Coleman did not start in the semifinals or the final of the 200 meters. He has already qualified for the World Athletics Championships in the 100 meters by virtue of being the 2019 world champion in the event.
St. Hillaire was crowned 400m champion with a time of 45.46 at the Trinidad & Tobago National Championships on Saturday afternoon, setting a Commonwealth record and automatically qualifying for the World Championships in July.
Internationally, Charlton ran a new Bahamian personal best and national record of 12.60.
In total, six Wildcats won the US Championships this weekend: Evans (discus), Harrison (100m hurdles), McLaughlin (400m hurdles), Jordan Anthony (U20 200m), Steiner (200m) and Roberts (110m with obstacles). St. Hillaire won the 400m at the Trinidad and Tobago Championships and Charlton won the 100m hurdles at the Bahamas National Championships.
Masai Russell placed sixth in the 400m hurdles final with a time of 55.66 after running a personal best 55.02 in the semis. It was her first USATF Outdoor Championships final and she was just .004 away from a second final in the 100m hurdles. At the NCAA Championships, Russell placed third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Javianne Oliver, Olympic silver medalist in the 4x100m, placed seventh in the 100m final in a season-best 10.94 after running 10.95 in the semi-finals hours earlier.
Keaton Daniel placed 10th in the pole vault with a height of 18’0.5”/5.50m.
Olivia Gruver placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 14’9”/4.50m and Celera Barnes finished sixth in the 100m final (10.86w).
Josh Sobota competed in his first USATF Outdoor Championships and finished 13th in the shot put (64’6”/19.66m).
Sha’Keela Saunders placed sixth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 21’4.25”/6.51m.
Jade Gates was unable to register a mark in the hammer throw.
Alexis Holmes ran the 400 meters in 52.68 in the prelims.
