Tobago’s Assistant Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transport, Assemblywoman Megan Morrison, met with Grenada’s Permanent Secretary for Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Norman Gilbert, earlier today at the Ministry’s Central Office in St. George’s, Grenada.
According to a media release, further partnerships and collaborations, knowledge sharing and transfers to develop cultural products of both islands, as well as cultural innovations, were among some of the areas discussed.
Assemblyman Morrison was accompanied by Artist and Radio Personality, Adana Roberts; Artist and Music Producer, Gerard Balfour; and 2022 Lady Tobago Heritage Personality, Leighanne Charles. As part of the ongoing cultural exchange, Ms Roberts is said to be performing as a guest artist at the Grenadian Groovy Soca Monarch finals tonight.
The announcement emphasized that the visit follows the acceptance of an official invitation from the CEO of The Spicemas Corporation, Mr. Kelvin Jacobs, for a twinning activity between Tobago and Grenada to observe Carnival celebrations, promote and showcase the destination and visibility in a regional region. level for Tobago artists.
He said Grenada’s mission approved by the Executive Council also serves as a springboard for deeper conversations on tourism and potential cultural partnerships and the possibility of start of inter-regional trade sea voyage between Tobago and Grenada for Tobago’s inaugural October Carnival, which is scheduled for October 28-30, 2022.
He said that given the mandate of the Tobago House of Assembly to encourage cultural integration through regional partnerships and exchanges, Tobago can look forward to welcoming, in return, a contingent from Grenada who will participate in the October Carnival offerings of Tobago.
“This will also provide an avenue for further arrivals to Tobago and participation by Grenada-based stakeholders and leisure seekers who opt for a different experience.”
