The World Surf League returns to the Outer Banks after a two-year, pandemic hiatus for a five-day run at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. Painter Joseph Caroppoli will have an exhibit of his work in the Vault Gallery at the Dare Arts Council building in Manteo. The collection of portraits of women from different cultures “is about effectively expressing the feminine ability to maintain grace and ease despite the complexity of their role in society.” Caroppoli will host an opening reception on Sept. 2 from 6-8 p.m., which coincides with the monthly First Friday festival. Annual exhibit featuring Outer Banks artists, held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk. Two-day, family-friendly festival celebrating the community and heritage of Hatteras Village. The eleventh annual event celebrates all things surfing with four days of films and receptions centered primarily on Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. The festival kicks off with the free Lifetime Show of local surfer and businessman Jesse Hines at Outer Surf in Nags Head. Other films include the lives of the godfather of surfing, Duke Kahanamoku, Eastern Surfing Association co-founder Cecil Lear, and Portuguese surfer Joana Andrade. The nonprofit performing arts organization, whose outreach is based on cultural Latin dance, will perform at First Flight High School.
