Traffic restrictions in view of Idol Immersion Carnival 2022; avoid these routes

Calcutta: Kolkata traffic police issued a traffic advisory in view of this year’s idol immersion carnival in the city on Saturday. In view of the carnival, traffic restrictions are in place and some roads will be closed for more than six hours between 14:00 and 23:00.

Nearly 100 Durga puja organizing committees will take out processions and parade their idols on the streets during the evening hours of October 8.

Members of the Puja Committee will perform in front of guests seated along the Red Road as part of the Durga Puja carnival. A large number of devotees participate in the processions every year.

The carnival will start at 16:30 and is expected to last six hours. According to the advisory, goods vehicles will be restricted to ply within the city from 15:00 today.

Kolkata Police shared the list of roads affected due to the carnival and suggested alternative routes. Traffic movement on Red Road, Khidderpore Road, Lovers Lane, Hospital Road (northbound), Queens Way, Esplanade Ramp, Plassey Gate Road and Mayo Road will be restricted.

– Hospital Road (with the northern border) will be closed to traffic. Commuters can use AJC Bose Road-Jawaharlal Nehru Road as an alternate route.

-Kidderpore Road will be closed. The traffic police have proposed St Georges Gate Road-Strand Road as an alternative.

– The Red Road will remain closed. Rani Rashmoni Avenue-Jawaharlal Nehru Road or Rani -Rashmoni Avenue-Kingsway-Strand Road will help the commuters to reach their destination.

-Queensway will remain closed. Cathedral Road-Jawaharlal Nehru Road is the alternate route for traffic here.

-Mayo Road will remain closed and motorists may use Jawaharlal Nehru Road-Rani Rashmoni Road for their journey.

Also, from Saturday afternoon until the end of the carnival, parking of vehicles will not be allowed on the following roads:

Government Place West, between Rani Rashmoni Avenue and Esplanade Row West, Chowringhee Road, Cathedral Road, Queensway, Mayo Road, Strand Road, Bentinck Road West Wing (between Chittaranjan Avenue and Ganesh Chandra Avenue), RN Mukherjee Road, Hare Street, and Old Court House Street (west side) will have no parking until the end of the carnival.
