Hundreds of visitors are expected to join York to welcome King Charles III and the Queen Consort on a historic visit on November 9.
Their Majesties King Charles III and Camilla, The Queen Consort, will visit York to unveil a statue of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at York Minster.
The King will also visit Micklegate Bar, which is a traditional royal entrance to the city.

Road closure information
The King and Queen Consort will arrive in York in the late morning and depart in the early afternoon.
City center roads will be closed during the royal visit as follows:
From 9.30 to 11.30
- Micklegate Bar off Nunnery Lane (Punch Bowl/Wetherspoons Pub) on the corner opposite Delrio Restaurant (Blossom Street)
- Bar Lane
- Micklegate at the junction with Priory Street
Diversions will be made via Holgate Road and Scarcroft Road
From 9.30 to 11.30
- First lane
- Trinity Lane
- Barker Lane
- St. Martin’s Lane
9.30 to 13.00
10.30 – approx
The King and Queen will enter the city via Tadcaster Road, so roads along this area will be affected by temporary road closures for around 10 to 15 minutes.
Once The King and Queen Consort have entered the city, they will travel to York Minster via:
- Micklegate
- Tanner Row
- Tanner Street Junction
- George Hudson Street
- Rougier Street
- Lendal Bridge
- St. Leonard’s Place
Roads along this area will be affected by temporary road closures (all one way closures) for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
In the early afternoon, The King and Queen Consort will exit the city via the A19, so roads along this area will be affected by temporary road closures for around 10 to 15 minutes.
Travel and access arrangements
Visitors and residents are advised to plan ahead before traveling.
For public safety, barriers will be in place at Micklegate Bar on Tuesday 8 November, as well as Duncombe Place.
The city walls will be temporarily closed between Lendal Bridge and Victoria Bar until midday.

All Park & Ride services will be operating, except Poppleton Bar Park & Ride, which is being used as a testing center for COVID-19.
Askham Bar Park & Ride will be affected by road closures, so bus users are advised to plan ahead.
Nunnery Lane car park will remain open but access in and out of the car park will be via Nunnery Lane (Bishopthorpe Road and Skeldergate Bridge) during temporary road closures.
