Trinidadian student Christopher Ash has been awarded the 2022 Korean Government Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in robotics and intelligent systems engineering at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, a metropolitan city in South Korea.

Prior to the two-year degree program, Ash will spend an additional year studying Korean at Dongseo University in Busan, South Korea’s second largest city, in order to familiarize himself with Korean society and student life, which will start in September of this year. year, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea said in a press release yesterday.

The embassy said that among many applicants, Ash was selected as the scholarship winner after a thorough evaluation of his academic achievements, language skills and extracurricular activities.

Yesterday, Korean Ambassador Oh Dong-il welcomed and greeted Ash at the embassy in Port of Spain. Ambassador Oh further congratulated the scholar and shared useful information about his stay in Korea, the Embassy said.

Ash has expressed his keen interest in experiencing campus life in Korea and is looking forward to exploring the Korean language and culture while furthering his educational goals in robotics engineering, the embassy added.

The embassy has also advised that students around the world who wish to pursue their undergraduate or graduate degree in Korea can take advantage of the opportunity to study at no cost – including a year of Korean language study – if they are selected as recipients of the Korea Global Scholarship (GKS), which is offered by the Korea National Institute of International Education (NIIED).
