The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has issued a denial of an April Fool’s joke posted on the Red Force Facebook page.

On Friday, an undated letter was posted on the site telling cricket clubs that the TTCB had held an emergency meeting earlier this week, prompting it to suspend all cricket under its auspices.

This document bore the signature of former board secretary Surujdath Mahabir.

“TTCB wishes to disassociate itself from the alleged media release printed on board letterhead and shared on social media,” a TTCB statement said.

On Friday, TTCB president Azim Bassarath confirmed reports of the fake letter and said a disclaimer had been issued on the Facebook post.

The disclaimer said: “It has been noted that the attached correspondence has been circulated and is considered to have been issued by us.

“Please note that this information is completely false and attached is NOT affiliated with TTTCB or any of its affiliates.

“Any inconvenience is regrettable and TTCB racing continues apace with Premier League fixtures continuing this weekend.”
