TRINIDAD Northern Rugby Football Club were crowned champions of the inaugural St Lucia Carnival Rugby 7s tournament.

Shakeel “Kenyan” White was integral in claiming the emphatic 31-10 title win and was named player of the tournament.

From kick-off the boys in blue had their first try, which was scored by James Phillip, while Chris Hudson added the two extra points.

James added another while Dyte added a third. Hudson converted two of three attempts to end the half at 19-0 in favor of the North.

The second half started slowly for the boys from the north as they gave away penalties. This led to a yellow card for Andrew Lobo, which gave the Island Sharks the lead.

With increased pressure on the TT team, the Island Sharks managed to score two goals to make it 19-10 just before Lobo returned to the field.

However, Northern soon added two more tries to their tally as they were back to seven full, with tries coming from Hudson and Joshua Marson. This surge ended all hopes for the Island Sharks.

In total, for Trinidad Northern, a squad of 24 (13 players, 11 support staff) participated.
