A carnival atmosphere in Trowbridge tomorrow (Saturday, October 22) should help the town lift some of its current political, social, financial and economic doom and gloom.
A long procession of illuminated floats, music, majors, marching bands and local entries will wind its way through the town centre.
Chair of Trowbridge Carnival Committee, Maryrose Mantle, said: “Trowbridge Carnival is a great night out for all the family.
“We have received more than 40 applications so far, while others will not come. We hope it will bring some smiles, laughter and music to the city.”
Andy Barlow, of Trowbridge Wessex Mead Rotary Club, said: “In a time of doom and gloom, we have good news.
“The carnival is back and is the biggest single event that Trowbridge puts on each year with thousands coming to support the event.”
The annual procession is likely to involve hundreds of people and starts on Canal Road at 7pm and ends at Cradle Bridge.
Road closures will be in place from 6pm and city center diversions will be signposted.
The carnival procession route will pass from Canal Road to The Down, Islington, Timbrell Street, Church Street, Silver Street, Market Street and Castle Street, finishing at Cradle Bridge.
There are likely to be four floats from the Wessex Carnival area, plus four marching bands: Jamma de Samba from Bath, Dolphin Marching Band from Poole, Dorset Youth Marching Band from Corfe Mullen near Wimborne and White Horse Samba from Calne.
Entries include majorettes, dance groups, masquerades and local acts. Trade and business registrations are being urged to book.
“We are inviting the town’s traders and businesses to join us on the night and get in touch via the Trowbridge Carnival Facebook page.”
The event is sponsored by Trowbridge Ford, Forrester Sylvester Mackett Solicitors and Trowbridge Town Council.
Other events have included the Carnival Fayre on June 25 and the Soap Box Derby on August 21.
