Trinidad and Tobago Women’s U-19 Cricket continued their strong start to the West Indies Women’s U-19 Cricket Championship with their second win in as many matches yesterday.
In the second leg of a double header at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, the T&T U-19 girls had little trouble beating Barbados by seven runs.
T&T captain Shalini Samaroo won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be a good decision as Barbados were held to a respectable score of 113 for two in the allotted 20 overs. Asabi Callender top scored with 34 off 43 balls, while opener and captain Trishan Holder made a run of 32 balls before being run out after adding 49 for the first wicket with Zaliya Campbell (27 off 45 balls). While losing just two wickets, the Bajan young ladies were unable to increase their scoring pace as the innings progressed.
In their run chase, T&T did not get off to a strong start, losing both Shunelle Sawh and captain Samaroo with just 18 runs on the board. However, player of the match all-rounder Djenaba Joseph settled things with a blistering, unbeaten 56 off 33 balls to power T&T to victory as they reached 115 for three.
In other matches yesterday, the United States girls beat their Windward Islands counterparts by eight wickets, while Guyana defeated the Leeward Islands by ten wickets.
