Trinidad and Tobago women’s under-19 cricketers will travel to St Vincent and the Grenadines next week for a five-match T20 series from April 14-19, which will be part of the team’s preparations for West Indies Women’s U-19 Futures. competition in July.
This will be the first bilateral under-19 women’s tour between these two territories and to commemorate the occasion and in anticipation of a continued collaboration between the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association (TTWCA) and the Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB), the teams will play for the trophy Ann Browne-John and Nadica McIntyre (Browne-John/McIntyre).
Trinidadian Ann Browne-John and Grenadian Nadica McIntyre have been two notable advocates and contributors to the development of West Indies women’s cricket.
Browne-John is still actively involved in cricket administration and is currently the chief selector for West Indies women. She is also a former West Indies player. Until her death in 2017, McIntyre was a women’s cricket champion and administrator and would have represented Grenada at regional level.
The president of WICB, Dr Kishore Shallow, said that the recognition of the two ladies was well deserved. “Women’s cricket in the West Indies has survived and thrived through the incalculable efforts of the likes of Ann and Nadica. I am very pleased to be associated with the recognition of these two outstanding contributors to women’s cricket,” he said.
Meanwhile, Browne-John said: “I am humbled by this initiative by the WICB and very honored to be recognized in this way, especially with Nadika, who was a stalwart for women’s cricket.”
WICB Technical Director Miles Bascombe added: “Windwards Cricket’s continued emphasis on women’s cricket matches that of Trinidad and Tobago, hence the enthusiasm for this tournament. I’m sure there will be tremendous learning opportunities for these young players.”
