Policies and procedures relating to arrangements for extra duty of police officers with party promoters and event organizers are being re-evaluated and monitored.
Acting Police Commissioner Mc Donald Jacob said the approach will help reduce the likelihood of irregularities and inconsistencies.
Jacob gave the assurance at a meeting with the Trinidad and Tobago Promoters Association (TTPA) over the weekend.
Also on duty at the meeting were Deputy Commissioners of Police, Operations and Administration and Support, Erla Christopher, and Intelligence and Investigation, Wendell Williams, TTPA President, Jerome “Rome” Precilla, Attorney, TTPA, Paige De Leon, Acting Senior Superintendents of the Port-of-Spain Police Division, Neil Brandon John and Western Division, Anthony Remy, who represented two of the 10 police divisions that organize the biggest events during the regular Carnival season.
A mutual agreement was reached to work together to adhere to clear policy, resolve the force of police officers at the event and ensure future cooperation to enhance the symbiotic relationship of both entities ahead of the 2023 Carnival season.
Jacob told the TTPA that the TTPS will implement further guidance on what was already outlined in the TTPS Additional Duty Policy to address some of the critical challenges raised by the Association.
De Leon said she was “pleased with the discussions” as the TTPA and TTPS remain committed to supporting the country’s creativity, culture and livelihood.
The TTPS and TTPA are expected to meet again as established policies are reviewed and monitored.
