Twitter Accused of Misleading Users on Data Sold to Advertisers

Twitter Inc. tricked consumers into revealing their personal information under the false pretense of securing their account, but actually sold the information to advertisers, according to a proposed class action filed in federal court in California.

Christa McClellan and Billy Moses claim that Twitter did not disclose that users’ email addresses and phone numbers would be used for any purpose other than verifying login information or allowing users to recover their accounts. Twitter has encouraged users to set up two-factor authentication with their contact information since 2013.
