It’s no wonder that all the major social media apps are working hard to change their algorithms in a way that recommends the best content in users’ feeds.
Taking inspiration from TikTok has really become a trend and everyone is doing it, with Twitter also joins the bandwagon.
The company recently went public with the decision to experiment with different ways to better recommend content. They want to show users more of what they like to definitely generate more views and engagement through the app.
In this way, Twitter hopes to keep users glued to their screens for a longer period of time, just like they are on the TikTok app. Unfortunately, Meta has not been very successful in this endeavor.
Gone are the days when we looked at social graph statistics to better infer what people like. Today, it’s all about using AI-powered technology to generate recommendations, as can be seen from TikTok.
The company highlighted what it’s doing to give users recommendations on their feeds, and they’re also launching a unique experiment related to providing them with more control. Remember, if the users are happy, then the app is happy because that’s where the money comes from.
Citing the update via its recent blog post, the app says these can best be seen as personalized recommendations that are judged entirely by how you behave in the app, which they call signals.
From your interests to the intriguing topics you follow, the list is endless. You are also given the opportunity to engage in many tweets and this is where more signals are generated. It’s also about which tweets are liked by those in your network. Generally, this is what your recommendations end up showing up.
Twitter knows its in-app algorithms aren’t great, and that’s why it’s making these adjustments to get back in the game and give users content they really want and care about.
The platform says it also has plans to improve the Spaces Tab because it feels it lacks in terms of customization as well. They hope to further shape this by adding more stations and subcategories so users can manually tell the app what they want and enjoy.
Similarly, hosts on Spaces will be prompted to add topics to develop their conversations.
We find it a bit odd that an app is asking a user what they like or prefer instead of manually looking at the app’s activity and letting that show better.
Twitter is working on making other changes like introducing an X button for tweet recommendations. This enables content to be deleted from timelines more quickly and allows you to share comments.
We’re not sure how successful the app will be, but it’s about time we took a look at its Explore page, which continues to lack in terms of customization.
