Twitter continues to remove accounts that do not comply with its terms and conditions from its platform. It was recently revealed in Twitter’s monthly compliance report that the platform banned more than 46,000 Indian user accounts in May for violating its guidelines. - Posting sensitive content
Twitter bans accounts that post sensitive content on the platform. As defined by Twitter, sensitive content is “extremely lewd, violent, or adult content” within a live video or profile header, or List banner images. Twitter strictly states that media about “sexual violence and/or assault” is also not allowed on the platform. A detailed description of sensitive content can be found here.
2. Imitation
Impersonating someone else on the platform will also lead to account suspension. According to Twitter’s Fraudulent and Misleading Identities Policy, “You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations to deceive, confuse, or mislead others, nor use a false identity in a way that disrupts others’ experience on Twitter .”
3. Posting or spreading harmful content
Posting or spreading “hate” content on the platform is also against the company’s terms and conditions. “Threats of violence” is one of many actions that will result in the “immediate and permanent suspension” of an account. This comes under coordinated harmful activity. According to Twitter, “Coordinated Harmful Activity is an actor-level framework, meaning we evaluate groups, movements and campaigns and then take enforcement action on any accounts we identify as being associated with those entities.”
4. Posts with non-consensual nudity
Twitter does not allow users to share intimate photos or videos of others without their consent. According to Twitter’s rules, “Sharing sexually explicit images or videos of someone online without their consent is a serious violation of their privacy and the Twitter Rules. Sometimes referred to as revenge pornography, this content poses serious safety and security risks to the people affected and can lead to physical, emotional and financial hardship.”
5. Posting content related to child sexual exploitation
Twitter has a zero-tolerance policy “for any material that contains or promotes the sexual exploitation of children.” However, Twitter has clarified that discussions about child sexual exploitation are allowed, “provided they do not normalize, promote or glorify child sexual exploitation in any way”.
