While I grew up pretty ignorant of my mental health issues, I’ve learned to be more aware and talk about them as honestly and openly as I can. I believe that not talking about these issues makes them taboo, preventing conversations about the mental health issues that most of us go through. I believe my own understanding and awareness of my mental health started by talking about it with friends and finding forums/communities online that create awareness about it. Having said that, I will admit that the biggest help I have received for my mental health is therapy. While therapy may seem like a slow process, finding a good therapist is key to finding the help you personally need. But if you’re unable to get therapy and still want some advice, the Twitter user @hoesluvad asked on Twitter about the advice given by therapists and the answers will enlighten and hopefully help you.
Got you, so give yourself a pep talk first. It sounds silly, but the more you say it and stick with it, the more it helps, but honestly it takes a while before you start to believe what you’re saying. The other is that you are allowed to feel what you feel without being a burden.

The other is to face those dark thoughts, allow yourself to feel them fully, because that’s the only way you can get past them. Life happens, but you can and will learn the tools to help you. I have more specific ones dealing with BPD, anxiety and depression as well

Not everyone has to be a permanent fixture in your life. Some people will leave, some will stay, some are only meant for one bow and then they’re gone. That’s fine, and it doesn’t say anything about your character. It doesn’t have to be a disaster

Change the way you talk to yourself. Instead of saying things like “this person made me feel this way” or “I will never have/feel/get this” use the sentence “I feel”. It’s hard at first, but it puts the ball back in your court instead of giving power to others.

instead of saying “Must have” try something else. Saying “Should” creates shame in your past actions.
Give yourself grace even for the ideas and ideals you previously held. We are all in a state of permanent accumulation of knowledge, always learning.

One of the biggest issues in our country is how expensive mental health care is. It takes somewhere in between ₹700 – ₹3000 for a session which usually lasts about an hour. Moreover, finding a good therapist within yourself is difficult. Most people don’t realize that therapy is an interactive experience, so finding an expert who can help you, in the way you need, is important. Plus, there is a huge taboo around talking about mental health as most people in India don’t even think that getting therapy is important. Unfortunately, despite it being 2022, people still don’t talk about or even acknowledge issues like depression or anxiety. And it’s so bad that there have been so many cases where people open up about these problems that are called overdramatic and not taken seriously. That’s why I’m glad that on some level people are discussing this and helping each other improve.
