CARY, NC – The Clemson men’s tennis team wrapped up day three at the ITA Regionals in Cary, NC The Tigers got off to a slow start in singles, but picked it up in the afternoon with two Clemson doubles winning two straight matches to advance to tomorrow’s main draw in the afternoon.
“The singles this morning were disappointing,” coach Robbie Weiss said. “We didn’t perform well and we didn’t compete with the standards we set for ourselves. In the afternoon, Ryuhei and Spencer played some very good doubles and won both of their matches. They both got better today and should have a good moment in tomorrow’s game. Ethan and Matt also won both of their doubles matches and competed very well. I was definitely happy with the dual, but we have to refocus and get it going when we get back to Clemson. I’m excited to get to work and finish the fall on a high note.”
Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Ryuhei Azuma dropped their main draw matches to NC State’s Staeheli (6-0, 6-1) and Van Sambeek (6-4, 6-4), respectively, while Matt Pitts lost his match in consolation. tied with Krstic from Elon (7-5, 6-2).
Pitts and Ethan Silva impressed as a pair, defeating Queens University’s Blickwede/Steveker 6-3, 6-3 and beating Campbell’s Petko/Balazi 6-3, 7-6.
