Two of West Indies’ senior batsmen, former wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin and top-order batsman Lendl Simmons called it a day after 16 years of international cricket for West Indies.
Both Ramdin and Simmons made the announcement last week of their retirement.
Ramdin, 37, from Trinidad and Tobago, who last played Test cricket for the West Indies against Australia in January 2016, made his debut against Sri Lanka in July 2005. In 74 Tests, he scored 2,898 runs which included four centuries and 15 half-centuries, with an average of 25.87. He took 205 catches and 12 stumpings in his Test career.
He played 139 ODIs for West Indies scoring 2200 runs with two centuries and eight half centuries. He also finished with 181 catches and seven stumpings.
Ramdin also played 71 T20Is in which he scored 636 runs in those innings, took 43 catches and made 20 stumpings.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago’s Simmons also announced his retirement after making his debut in 2006.
He played 144 matches scoring 3763 runs in all formats.
Altogether, Simmons played eight Tests for the West Indies, along with 68 ODIs and T20s respectively.
Simmons played a key role in West Indies’ triumph during the 2016 T20 World Cup. He last represented the West Indies during the 2021 T20 World Cup, struggling with 16 off 35 balls as the team lost to South Africa.
