In an email to customers, Uber in Jamaica announced their tipping service. Something we gave them as an urgent action item a few weeks ago if they were to remain viable in the hot Jamaican stock market.
Uber entered Jamaica just over a year ago and has amassed 15,000 customers, taking over 200,000 rides, making just over $100 million JMD in gross revenue, while amassing a boatload of data on the habits of Uber customers. Then came InDriver and the debate over who will win the market.
Then it hit a snag with app bugs and a bored driver pool unhappy with the low fares. Fast forward to the last 30 days since an Uber team visited Kingston – the app bug has been fixed, fares have gone up and now this…The Union.
Let’s see if Uber can pull back from the mini-exodus of drivers and customers who switched to InDriver because for drivers the rates were better and for customers, the cars came faster although the poor quality of the drivers and their service remains an appeal continuous.
The race remains hot.
