See below for a statement from the University of Guyana on the new academic year:
The University of Guyana is set to begin the new academic year 2022/23 with orientation sessions for new and continuing students starting from September 5 to September 10, 2022.
Classes for most new and continuing students will begin on 12 September 2022. It should be noted that some classes for new students in some disciplines such as the College of Medicine will start two weeks later, as these students require CXC, GCE. and CAPE scores to be accepted. The university was able to facilitate provisional admission for some disciplines before their exam results were released by the CXC.
Applications, registration and admission are still ongoing as the University prepares for another milestone in its 59-year history. For the first time, the university will offer its students three attendance options. Depending on the discipline, classes will be offered in online, face-to-face, or blended learning formats. Faculties and other academic departments continue to advise their respective students directly about the options available to them.
However, the new UG timetable system will also be made available to new and continuing students from September 2, at https://uog.edu.gy/ugtimetables.
VIRTUAL orientations for new and continuing students
This year UG will welcome over 3,000 freshmen who will join 8,000 continuing students, three thousand of whom will graduate by the end of this year. Virtual orientations for new and continuing students of the Turkish, Berbice and Institutes of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE) campuses will last for one week. The URL for orientations will be available to students directly from their SRMS, University Registry and their Academic Departments from 2 September. New and continuing students will receive a direct email with the necessary login information so they can register.
Orientation sessions aim to provide a step-by-step introduction to all the systems, policies, staff and resources students need to navigate the university. This will be especially important for students to start their lessons smoothly on the first day of school. The sessions also address questions and concerns related to the program and provide the necessary support and guidance to students to ensure that their time at the University is as smooth, enriching and fulfilling as possible. During orientation, students are also introduced to specific rules, regulations, faculty, processes, visiting physical and online classrooms, how to read and calculate grade point averages (GPAs), and academic profiles. Also, they are made aware of the special services and opportunities available to them during and after their studies.
Students awaiting communication about their applications should check whether they have submitted their applications or documents, or whether they have clicked to accept the offer.
Although many programs are at capacity, students who have applied and have not yet heard from the University or who wish to register for programs that still have spaces are encouraged to apply or complete pending applications or registrations as registrations will resume in early November for students on the waiting list. .
