Free event in Roselle as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations
The Union County Board of Commissioners invites residents to a Cultural Day celebration on Saturday, September 17th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm The event will take place at the Warinanco Park Sports Center, located at 1 Park Drive in Roselle. Participation is free and all are welcome to attend.
“Cultural Day is one of many events planned during the County’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month,” said County Commissioner Chairwoman Rebecca Williams. “We hope to see everyone come out and enjoy the various cultural offerings available as we all celebrate the diversity of our Hispanic community.
The event will include several dance and music performances ranging from salsa, folkloric dance to Latin guitar music. Food trucks from The Garden Restaurant and The Lomo will also serve authentic Hispanic cuisine.
“Our Union County Hispanic Cultural Day will provide an afternoon of activities for residents of all ethnicities with a look at the rich cultural music, dance and food that embodies the Hispanic community,” said Commissioner Sergio Granados. “I invite everyone to join us as we put these parties on display for all to see.”
Resource tables from various partners will be set up during the event for attendees. Residents will be able to consult with agencies such as: Union County Youth Services, Board of Elections, Puerto Rican Alliance of Elizabeth, Latin American Chamber of Commerce and more.
“As a commissioner and as a Cuban-American, it brings me great pride to recognize the rich Hispanic culture here in Union County,” said Commissioner Lourdes Leon.
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. On September 15, the Hispanic Heritage Flag Raising marks the beginning of the month-long celebration. The Cultural Day is the second in a series of events planned throughout the month that also include:
- September 23, 18:30 – Movie night: Beauty – Warinanco Park, Roselle
- October 12, 6:00 – 9:00 PM – Panel: History of the Hispanic Media League of Union County – Kean University North Avenue Academic Building (Corner of Morris and North Aves.)
- October 14, 19:00 – Drive-Up Movie: Beauty – (Salsa Lessons @ 7pm & Movie @ 8pm) – Plainfield High School, 950 Park Ave., Plainfield.
- October 15, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Family Fun Day – Rahway River Park, Parkway Drive (Near Ulrich Memorial Pool)
