Georgia volleyball wraps up its non-conference schedule this weekend against ACC opponents NC State and No. 7 Georgia Tech.

The Bulldogs will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the Wolfpack on Thursday at 4 p.m., ET, at Barnhill Arena on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Georgia then returns to Stegeman Coliseum to host the Yellow Jackets on Saturday at 7:00 PM in an in-state rivalry matchup.

Georgia will open its Southeastern Conference schedule next Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Mississippi State. First serve on the SEC Network is set for 8:00 p.m., ET, from the Newell-Grissom Building. Georgia will have a bye week before hosting South Carolina at Stegeman Coliseum on Wednesday, September 28.

Let’s summarize

Georgia had its first road test of the 2022 season last weekend in Boston. The Bulldogs finished the weekend 3-0 with wins over Iona, Northeastern and Harvard. Georgia had to come back in each match after dropping the first set to all three opponents. The offense excelled for Georgia led by the senior Kacie Evans and junior Sophie Fischer. Evans posted 3.46 kills per set while Fischer posted a 3.31 average with a .473 hitting clip in 74 swings. Fischer was named MVP of the Harvard/Northeastern Challenge while Evans and the sophomore Bailey Cox earned all-tournament team honors.

Ace, Ace, Baby

Georgia has had consistently strong services since then Tom BlackHis arrival in Athens and 2022 has not made any difference. Nationally, Georgia’s 2.22 aces per set ranks 16th while ranking third in the SEC. Georgia’s 71 aces total ranks second in the league. individually, Kacie Evans AND Abby Maesch ranked in the top 100 in the country and sixth and seventh, respectively, in the SEC.

Evans is killing it

After nine games in 2022, Kacie Evans’ 4.34 kills per set ranks 23rd in the nation and second in the SEC. She leads the conference with a 5.16 scoring average, a clip that currently ranks 15th in the nation.

Evans joins the 1000-Kill club

During the third set of Georgia’s game against Texas Tech on Sept. 3 at Stegeman Coliseum, senior outside hitter Kacie Evans became the youngest member of Georgia’s 1,000-Killer Club. She is the club’s 19th all-time member and second under Tom BlackRachel Ritchie (2017-21) is next.

The University of Georgia held fast at number 16 in the 2023 US News & World Report ranking of the nation’s best public universities, marking the seventh consecutive year that UGA has placed in the top 20. Georgia is one of only two SEC institutions to rank among the top 20.
