Uruguayan analysts raised their growth forecast for the local economy from 5.22 to 5.40 percent for 2022, according to the average of the Survey of Economic Expectations published today, Wednesday, by the Central Bank of Uruguay.
The December survey, which consults economists and financial sector institutions, showed a 5 percent increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as the most pessimistic response and a 5.80 percent increase as the most optimistic.
Uruguay’s economy expanded 3.7 percent in the third quarter of the year, compared to the same period in 2021, driven by increased trade and food supplies, according to the bank’s December report.
The government of President Luis Lacalle Pou maintains the annual GDP growth projection at 4.8 percent.
On the other hand, analysts predict inflation of 8.40 percent for 2022 and negative -0.30 percent for December, according to the institution’s survey average.
Inflation rose by 8.46 percent in the mobile year ending in November, above the official target (3-6 percent).
