Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley received a courtesy call in Whitehall from newly appointed US Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Candace Bond on Tuesday.
In an update, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said Foreign Affairs and CARICOM Minister Dr Amery Browne and Energy Minister Stuart Young were also in attendance.
OPM said Bond was accompanied by Megan Kelly, Political Officer at the US Embassy.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CARICOM said that Dr. Browne “extended a very warm welcome to Ambassador Bond and recognized the friendly and longstanding relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America.”
“Minister Browne and Ambassador Bond had [a] frank discussions on a wide range of topics, including the export of cultural elements of Trinidad and Tobago, in particular, Soca, to the United States of America, the use of digital platforms and related issues; criminal activity in Trinidad and Tobago and possible increased security cooperation between the countries to combat violent crime; migration and treatment of migrants; and travel advice in Trinidad and Tobago and other reports published by the United States Government.”
“Ambassador Bond assured the Minister of her commitment to deeper engagement with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to address the concerns highlighted by Minister Browne and to provide opportunities for further collaboration and consultation.”
The ministry said the “cordial and productive meeting” ended with both sides committing to further active engagement in bilateral issues of common interest in the near future.
