The United States moved to the top of the West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Women’s U19 T20 Championship despite their match against Barbados being abandoned due to rain on Friday.
At the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Barbados won the toss and elected to bat first against the USA in a match reduced to seven overs per team.
However, after Barbados fell to 16-3 in the fourth over, the rain came again, ending any chance of a close out.
The USA, with the two points for the tie, climbed to 10 points in first place, above idle Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, which were both on eight points.
Guyana had the chance to move past the USA in the second game in Tarouba and take first place.
However, Jamaica stunned Guyana by 16 runs in a rain-affected match to claim their first points of the tournament.
Jamaica benefited from 25 overs from the Guyana bowlers to score 115 for 3 in their 20 overs.
Lena Scott hit a brilliant 43 off 55 balls, while Kate Wilmot had 28 not out from 28 balls.
Guyana struggled in their pursuit despite 27 from Naomi Barkoye with Kimarie Campbell taking two late wickets.
They fell by 16 runs to suffer their first defeat of the tournament, which has dented their chances of winning the title.
In the other match on Friday, Windward Islands beat Leeward Islands by 122 runs at Diego Martin.
The win was Windward’s first in the tournament.
On Saturday, Trinidad and Tobago take on Jamaica at Diego Martin from 9.30am.
The double-header at Brian Lara Stadium features Leeward Islands v USA from 10am and Windward Islands v Barbados from 2.30pm.
