Utah State Men’s Basketball Holds Annual Blue-White Scrimmage Friday

LOGAN, Utah – Aggie fans got their first look at the 2022-2023 Utah State men’s basketball team Friday night as USU held its annual Blue-White scrimmage inside the Dee Glen Smith Arena.

“We are ready to come back here,” said the head coach Ryan Odom said. “We are blessed to be able to train and play in this fantastic arena in front of our great fans. It was fun to see the boys go up and down even though we changed teams after each quarter. There were definitely some positive games. there and things we can build on.”

Utah State played four Blue vs. White quarterbacks, with every player suiting up for both teams throughout the night. Team White outscored Team Blue in the first, third and fourth quarters respectively 16-8, 19-7 and 16-14, while Team Blue won the second quarter 19-13.

Five Aggies finished the night in double figures as junior guards Max Shulga the sixth-year forward had 18 points This is mine had 16, junior guard Steven Ashworth had 16, sophomore forward Zee Hamoda there were 15 and senior guards Sean Bairstow there were 10.

Shulga also led the team in both assists and steals with five and three, respectively, while Hamoda had a team-best three blocks. USU was directed to the mosque by the junior center Simon lights up with eight boards.

After the scrimmage, Odom and Utah State’s four captains — Ashworth, Baistow, senior guard Rylan Jones and graduate ahead Taylor Funk – addressed the crowd. USU then ended the night with an autograph session.

“It felt like the atmosphere was back,” Ashworth said. “It’s good to be back on the spectrum. We’ve been practicing here for a few months, but to have some fans and officials, it was a lot of fun. We appreciate everyone who came out and we’re really looking forward to November 7.”

Utah State opens the 2022-2023 campaign with a three-game homestand, hosting in-state rival Utah Valley on Monday, Nov. 7, Bradley on Friday, Nov. 11 and Santa Clara on Monday, Nov. 14.
