Veekle the Caribbean’s first digital car rental app won the Kingston BETA Startup Stage Competition at the latest event on June 8. The Woman-Led Startup by Founder Cherie Williams won the pitch competition out of a field of 34 entrants.

The panel of three judges – Sharon Roper, Chris Cochran and Ugo Ikemba awarded Williams the highest score to win the $300,000 cash prize from the Development Bank of Jamaica’s BIGEE Program.

In response, Williams said

Participating in a field race is about more than just winning; it’s about the incredible growth and key contacts you’ll make along the way. Experience builds resilience, improves communication skills and energizes the entrepreneurial spirit. It’s an opportunity to learn from others, grow your network, and tap into the collective wisdom of the startup ecosystem.

I will continue to push myself and take every opportunity to present my vision for Veekle™ passionately and authentically. The journey can be nerve-wracking, but the rewards are immeasurable. “
