The once popular Vernon Light Up will be back this year after the Vernon Winter Carnival grew and restarted the event.
The Vernon Light Up has now become the Carnival of Lights and is scheduled for November 26th.
“The Vernon Winter Carnival was committed to taking on this community event two years ago after the Downtown Vernon Association decided to no longer host it,” Vernon Winter Carnival Executive Director Vicki Proulx said in a media release. “After two years of COVID restrictions, we “I’m excited to finally be able to host the event we envisioned.”
In 2019, the Downtown Vernon Association held its final Vernon Light Up before announcing that after 25 years it would no longer be running the event.
The new Carnival of Lights will now take place on November 26 between 5pm and 8pm in Spirit Square and Civic Plaza outside City Hall.
“The Carnival of Lights will be a great mix of holiday lighting traditions as well as features that will allow our youngest residents to connect with this amazing community,” said Proulx. “The Carnival of Lights is a free community event that will feature entertainment, food vendors, crafts, games and local vendors. For those looking to get a boost on their shopping, there will also be holiday gift ideas available for purchase.”
Organizers say the Vernon Winter Carnival will decorate Spirit Square with thousands of lights and light features, lasting every night from November 26th to December 31st.
The light will then be switched on again for the duration of the winter festival, from February 3 to February 12, 2023.
Businesses, community groups and vendors who want to participate in the Carnival of Lights can contact the Vernon Winter Carnival here.
