Vernon Winter Carnival Memories Project to create series of videos of local residents sharing their carnival expereinces – Vernon News

Sharing carnival memories

The Vernon Museum and Archives want to keep the memories of the carnival alive.

The Vernon Winter Carnival Memories Project aims to create a series of videos that engage local residents to tell their stories of past Vernon Winter Carnivals and share their knowledge and experiences with future generations.

Video interviews will be conducted in mid to late August focusing on three main areas:

Tell us your memories of the Vernon Winter Carnival.

  • How has VWC impacted our community?
  • What would you like to share with our future generations about the importance of community events like the Vernon Winter Carnival?

The videos will be edited and shared with the community through social media and possibly shown at schools and at an event during the 2023 Vernon Winter Carnival.

The project is funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons Seniors Program.

Residents who wish to be interviewed must meet the following requirements:

  • Over the age of 60
  • Lived in Vernon for at least 10 years
  • Must sign a media release allowing VWC to use their interview and image for promotional purposes
  • Must be available in August to interview
  • Must have a strong and positive connection to the Vernon Winter Carnival and the Vernon Community
