Vernon Winter Carnival Society wants to hear from seniors about carnivals of days gone by – Vernon News

Senior stories wanted

The Vernon Winter Carnival wants to hear from area seniors.

The Vernon Winter Carnival Society has received funding from Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program that will be used to engage seniors in the community through the annual Vernon Winter Carnival.

As part of the project, VWC will create a series of videos that will engage local residents to tell their stories of past carnivals, allowing VWC to share past knowledge and experiences with future generations.

The funding will also allow VWC to create a seniors event during the 2023 festival, along with other opportunities to ensure local seniors can engage in community events.

“Thanks to the New Horizons for Seniors program, the Vernon Winter Carnival will make a significant difference in the lives of seniors in our community,” says Laurell Cornell, society president. “We have always been proud of Vernon’s Winter Carnival traditions and now have the opportunity to honor those who built this legacy in our community.”

VWC is currently seeking individuals to interview for the video portion of this project.

Contact the VWC by phone at 250-545-2236, or by email [email protected].
