The National Weather Service in San Juan warned that today’s primary threat is well-above-normal heat indices of up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, a Heat Advisory is in effect for coastal and urban areas of Northern Puerto Rico, where daytime high temperatures could reach the low 90s. Winds will remain from the east-northeast direction, at speeds up to 20 km/h with stronger showers and changes in the sea breeze.
A layer of dissipating Saharan air and an associated drier air mass will maintain good weather conditions and hazy skies this morning. However, the increase in tropical moisture and favorable conditions will lead to an increase in the development of precipitation and possible isolated storms, which will be concentrated in the southwest of Puerto Rico, where there is a possibility of water accumulation on roads and areas. with poor drainage.
Marine conditions continue to improve, but will continue to be choppy in coastal waters north and south of Puerto Rico and offshore portions of the Atlantic coast, where small vessel operators should exercise caution. Waves of up to 5 feet and winds of up to 15 knots will prevail in the rest of the local waters. There is a moderate risk of ocean currents for most local beaches, with the exception of the beaches of western Puerto Rico.
