Volunteers are needed for this year’s Budleigh Salterton Carnival in October.
The event usually takes place in the city on Saturday, October 1, but they currently need a marshal to approach the route when the floats first start out between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
The committee also needs 50 volunteers to come forward so they can have marshals working in pairs or traveling around town in shifts.
All interested parties will need a full briefing prior to the event and will be supported by qualified committee members.
A spokesman for Budleigh Carnival said: “The best thing about being a marshal is that you get a first-hand view of the carnival and can help and support your local community.”
“If you are able to help us on a street day, please contact us…without your help we cannot organize the carnival.”
Last week, the Journal reported that nearby Exmouth had canceled their 2022 carnival due to a lack of committee members. Exmouth Carnival was canceled last year due to Covid-19 and committee problems, and all floats were presented at Budleigh Carnival.
Budleigh Carnival was also canceled in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2019 carnival was also canceled at the last minute due to heavy rain, this being the third carnival to take place in the city. The first one took place in 2017, one also took place in 2018 and the last one will take place this October.
The plan for the evening is to meet at the Hub before turning right onto East Budleigh Road and then start traveling along Coastguard Road and past the War Memorial, along the seafront and onto Fore Street and continue up High Street .
At the traffic lights turn right into Station Road and travel along this road until you reach Upper Stoneborough Lane where the Carnival will finish at around 9.30pm. The roads will then be reopened.
