St Lucian Soca star Motto has hailed the return of Carnival as a resounding success.
Loop Caribbean caught up with the energetic artist after his performance at the Caribbean Melting Pot in Antigua.
He said that overall the organization of Carnival 2022 in Saint Lucia was outstanding.
“Compared to 2020 before the pandemic, we had a lot of people, I think everything that’s coming back next year, I think it’s going to be massive. I think all the Caribbean islands are going to have a massive carnival.”
While, like most others, he found it difficult to get used to the changes caused by the pandemic. However, he told Loop Caribbean that the time was used to explore new sounds and pursue new opportunities.
“I was always working during the pandemic, trying to find myself, a different kind of vibe, a different sound, and then I came up with ‘Uber Everywhere’ and Chicken and Rice and all these tunes… kind of like a different approach. that people were not used to Motto. During the pandemic I was just working and trying to find another lane…”
The St Lucian artist said he is looking forward to the full return of carnival to all Caribbean territories. Asked what sets St. Lucia’s carnival apart from others around the world, he said it’s a bit unique.
“I think St. Lucia Carnival is a little bit unique compared to anywhere I’ve traveled. One thing I would say is it’s not for everyone because if you don’t like the craziness and the pace and going on and going, it might not be be for you, but you can still come to the island and enjoy yourself of course, but the road, maybe it’s not for you… St. Lucia’s carnival is very unique compared to all the other Caribbean islands, it has the taste of his, his. the sound and the nature… just come to Saint Lucia and experience it…”
Now that the dust has settled after the carnivals in Saint Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda, Motto says he is now preparing for the Miami carnival and the return of the Trinidad and Tobago carnival next year.
When asked about future projects and potential collaborations, he shared just enough to pique our curiosity and keep us intrigued.
“I have a few things coming. International, way, way, international artists, I’m not just talking about soca, but like… That’s what I’m saying, like I told you during the pandemic I’ve been working. For myself .Right now I’m using Afrobeats and that’s one of the moves I’m making to build Motto’s brand to a lot more than it is, from the Caribbean to, let’s say Americans, let’s say Afro-Europeans and everywhere otherwise that music is accepted…”
