West Indies pacer Jason Holder has advised his fast bowlers not to get frustrated on the fast and bouncy surface in Perth.
The West Indies take on Australia in the first Test at Optus Stadium starting on November 30, with conditions likely to favor the fast bowlers.
“People get attracted to seeing the carry and the bounce, but you still have to find a really good length that suits the wicket. Knowing when to attack, when to defend and just understanding the context of the scenarios and the stage of the game.” Holder said.
“I think the most important thing for our players is to make sure that the Australian bowlers work really hard for their runs. We just have to assess the conditions earlier and make the necessary adjustments,” the former skipper added.
On Alzarri Joseph, who will play his first Test in Australia, Holder said the Antiguan is calm and aggressive and he will be the team’s enforcer.
“It’s amazing how long it’s been, so good to see him fit and healthy. He’s developed a lot from being very introverted and not talking much in the locker room,” Holder said of Joseph, who turned 26. birthday last week.
“He is much more comfortable with his peers, he is one of the most experienced campaigners when it comes to cricket across all formats,” he added.
On Jayden Seales, Holder said the 21-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago has a lot of skill, swing and control.
“I think those are his two biggest attributes. He probably won’t have a lot of swing in these conditions, but he’s good enough to pull off some seam moves,” he said.
Joseph has 62 wickets in 22 Tests, while Seales has 36 wickets in nine Test matches.
West Indies start the two-Test series against Australia as underdogs, having not won a Test Down Under for 25 years.
