The La Niña phenomenon, which affects the rainfall regime in southern Brazil for the third consecutive season, has already brought the first negative impact on cereals in Rio Grande do Sul in this 2022/23 cycle.
With the problems, consultancy StoneX lowered its estimate for the state’s summer maize harvest to 4.5 million tonnes from the 5.4 million tonnes forecast earlier in the month.
In August, the Emater-RS projection pointed to a summer maize harvest of 6.1 million tonnes, up from 2.9 million under drought conditions. . .
