West Virginia Falls to End Outrigger Volleyball Challenge

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-4) fell to Texas State (4-2) to conclude the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge at Simplifi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sunday, September 4.

Fifth-year outside hitter Adrian Ell the game began for WVU. The team scored five straight points late in the first set before falling 25-17. The Highlanders scored seven straight points in the second set, but the set went to the Bobcats.

The third set stayed close until two kills in a row from the middle player Melanie McGann helped the Highlanders leave. Freshman forward Quincy Coyle scored the touchdown to end the third set, 25-17, in West Virginia’s favor.

Starter outside hitter Bailey Miller earned her second double-double of the season, leading WVU with 15 kills and recording ten digs. She also leads the team with 16 points.

Ell collected 22 assists to close the tournament, while tallying three service assists. McGann led West Virginia with five blocks.

Additionally, West Virginia posted 47 digs, ten blocks and 48 kills in the win.

The team remains on the road as they travel to Vermillion, South Dakota for the South Dakota Classic. West Virginia opens the tournament against Northern Colorado on Friday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. ET. Live stats for the game can be found at WVUSports.com.
