West Virginia Looks to Bounce Back Against Bucknell

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team closes out its home week by playing host to Bucknell on Sunday, September 11 at 1:00 PM ET at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown .

It’s Patriots Day and free admission will be given to military personnel and first responders with proper ID Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early for a special pregame recognition honoring service members from the USS West Virginia.

The game is also Family Day and fans can purchase four tickets, along with a $10 concession coupon, for $25. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or by calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchased in advance, tickets are $5 each.

At the stadium ticket window, which opens at noon Sunday, tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for youth and seniors and $3 for groups. Discounted online pricing will be available until launch. WVU students are admitted free with a valid WVU student ID.

Sunday’s game will not be broadcast, but fans unable to attend can listen live 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown. Live stats are also available at WVUsports.com.

West Virginia enters Sunday’s game after falling to Clemson, 1-0, at Dick Dlesk Stadium on Sept. 8. The lone score in the contest came on a WVU own goal in the 10th minute as the Mountaineer senior defenseman Gabrielle Robinson tried to deflect a Clemson corner kick. The Highlanders had the chance to equalize in the 67th minute when the senior midfielder Maya McCutcheon drew a foul in the box, but the fifth-year senior defender Jordan Brewster was unable to convert on the penalty kick.

Regardless of the final score, the final box score showed the Mountaineers outscoring Clemson, 10-5, including a 6-1 advantage in the second half. The two teams were tied, 4-4, in shots on goal, while the Tigers held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Both goalies were called upon to make four saves, with Clemson goalie Halle Mackiewicz making a big stop on Brewster’s PK attempt.

Earlier this week, senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey was named the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week and the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week, while Brewster was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Massey leads the Big 12 in save percentage (.871) and is tied for first in the league in shutouts (4). She ranks third in the conference in goals against average (.500).

Sunday’s game marks just the third all-time meeting between West Virginia and Bucknell. The Mountaineers posted a 3-0 victory over the Bison in the two teams’ first meeting in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on November 17, 2017. The two programs met in Lewisburg for the first time in the series last season, as West Virginia recorded a 3-1 win on August 27.
Bucknell is led by seventh-year head coach Kelly Cook, who led the Bison to back-to-back Patriot League Championships in 2016 and 2017. The Bison are coming off a 2-0 loss at Towson on Sept. 8 after falling to Youngstown State, 1- 0, on September 4.

Senior Rylee Donaldson leads the offense with three goals and six points, while sophomore midfielder Teresa Deda has a trio of assists on the year. Goalies Kaylee Donelly and Jenna Hall return for the 2022 season, with each goalie recording 12 saves in three starts each.
