West Virginia Wraps Up South Dakota Classic

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (3-6) fell to CSU Bakersfield (3-6) on Saturday afternoon to end the South Dakota Classic in Vermillion, South Dakota.

WVU struck first in each set before falling in the third.

Freshman outside hitter Quincy Coyle led the Mountaineers in kills for the first time this season with 11. She also led WVU with 13 points.

Free Junior Skye Stokes continued to lead West Virginia in digs, recording 15. Stokes led the Mountaineers in digs in every game throughout the South Dakota Classic.

First Year First Shirt Setter Kamiah Gibson collected 18 assists to lead West Virginia.

Additionally, West Virginia recorded 33 kills and 46 digs against the Roadrunners.

Next, WVU opens its home schedule with the Mountaineer Invitational. West Virginia will face Merrimack, Binghamton and Delaware State in the three-game tournament. First serve against Merrimack is scheduled for Thursday, September 15 at 12:30 PM ET.
